The Coton de Tulear is a breed of small dog that originates from Madagascar. Its name comes from the French word "coton," which means cotton, and "Tulear," which is the port city in Madagascar where the breed was first identified.
The history of the Coton de Tulear is somewhat unclear, but it is believed that the breed is descended from the Bichon Frise, which was brought to Madagascar by French sailors in the 16th century. The breed was then crossed with local dogs, resulting in the Coton de Tulear.
The breed was initially kept by Madagascar's ruling classes as a companion dog, and was not widely known outside of the country until the mid-20th century. In the 1970s, the breed was imported to Europe, and later to the United States, where it quickly gained popularity.
Today, the Coton de Tulear is a beloved companion dog known for its affectionate personality, hypoallergenic coat, and small size. It is recognized by the American Kennel Club and other major kennel clubs around the world.
We are committed to breeding happy, healthy dogs through responsible breeding practices. We understand the breed's characteristics, temperament, and health issues.
